Legal Help for Structured Products Victims

Today, there was a newspaper report on some structured products victims seeking help from a lawyer, Leonard Loo. I am posting the following information from Leonard for those who are interested to find out more. He is organising a series of free no-obligation talks to meet up with investors.

Do note that MAS has advised investors against going directly to the legal route without first dealing with your financial institution. They have created a page on structured products with more information on how to proceed.

The information from Leonard follows:

We am presently organising legal briefings at our law firm, LEONARD LOO & CO, over the Lehman investment fiasco. This started on 19 October 2008 and was attended by over 100 investors to-date. There is no obligation for these investors to appoint our law firm after this briefing, which is free.

Kindly contact our law firm staff, Ms Ayu, Ms Ivy, Ms Wati or Ms Cindy for appointments for this legal briefing. Our Mr Leonard Loo will be pleased to meet these investors at this legal briefing and answer their queries. The investors will meet other investors in a similar situation at these briefings.

The weekdays’ timeslots are from

4pm to 4.30pm
7pm to 7.30 pm
7.30pm to 8pm
8pm to 8.30pm

The Sunday (26 October 2008) special timeslots (at half hourly intervals) are from

2pm to 6pm
7pm to 9pm

Our law firm’s Lehman hotline to call is

(Office) 6557 2422
(Mobile) 98456225

These investors may email their preferred appointment timeslots for the legal briefing, with their name, contact details and the investment product.

I bought Capital Protected Lehman Notes for Wheat and Milk. S$206000 ( convert to Australian currency). I felt that i was misled into buying this high risk product and certain information was withheld from me. I would like to know how can i meet up with Leonard to seek advice.

I travel extensively and only available in the following days
Nov 8 2-4pm Sun

Nov 23 10am- 12pm

I really need to see him so that i can decide what to do.

I find it strange that MAS advise investors to go to the FI first before the legal route. MAS is not a legal adviser and has neither the qualification nor the authority to give any legal advice to any individual and corporation. Only a lawyer is able to advice his or her client on the best course of action.

I am unsure whether are investors putting themselves into any disadvantage if there would to heed these “free” legal advice from MAS.

    Hi Wilfred,

    Nice to see you here.

I think this is a pretty complex case which is unprecedented in Singapore.

Really, different people might require different approaches depending on their circumstances.

No harm seeking a second opinion (as long as that person is able to provide good advice).
