The Fatwa Commitee of the Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura has issued a fatwa which recognises CPF nomination made by Muslims as a valid form of gift.
According to an earlier fatwa issued in 1971, a CPF nominee was only considered a trustee and had to distribute the proceeds according to faraidh or the Islamic Law of Inheritance.
With this new religious ruling, Muslim CPF holders will have greater control where the distribution of their CPF monies are concerned.
Those Muslims who have made earlier nominations with the understanding that their nominees are only trustees (to distribute their proceeds in accordance with faraidh) might now have to re-consider their nominations.
