I have attended one of the talks conducted by SIAS last year. Some speakers came from SMU and covered general financial concepts. I think it is quite useful.

Has anyone been to such workshops which invite financial “experts” to give a talk? Is it real financial education or is it for the purpose of milking innocent consumers in buying a lemon product?

Just curious…

    Hi Garrett,

Those organised by Moneysense are usually fine. MoneySENSE is an initiative by our government to promote financial literacy. Being non-profit oriented, they do not need to sell lemons to make a profit or even break even for their sessions.

For those events organised by brokerages, they are more for branding and also to get people to use their platform.
